Faculty Council to Vote on Campus-Wide Water Theme on 12/9
The Faculty Council will vote on a resolution to establish a campus-wide theme described in H2O Carolina: Water in Our World at this Friday’s meeting (3:00pm, Stone Center).
Faculty Council will also discuss the annual reports of the Faculty Executive Committee, the Faculty Assembly Delegation, and the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee, and hear updates from Chancellor Thorp, Provost Carney, and Chair of the Faculty Boxill. The agenda and all reports are now online here. All faculty are welcome to attend. We’ll be live-tweeting the meeting; follow @UNCFacGov on Twitter!
Boxill Invites Faculty to December Commencement, 12/18
The ceremony will be held on Sunday, December 18 at 2 p.m. at the Dean E. Smith Center. Prof. Barbara Frederickson, Kenan Distinguished Professor of Psychology, will deliver the address. Faculty may participate in the procession with or without regalia. Assemble at 1:30 p.m. in the Press Room of the Smith Center. Use Entry D and take the elevator down to the main floor. Marshals will direct you to the room. Parking is available in the Koury Lot adjacent to the Smith Center. Visit http://commencement.unc.edu/ or contact Jane Smith at 962-0045 for more information.
Center for Faculty Excellence Announces CFE 100+
This program is designed to support faculty members teaching course sections with enrollments of over one hundred. Services include a Faculty Learning Community, small grants program, workshop series, and expanded opportunities to share ideas with peers. Campus Dialogue on Engagement (1/6) to Focus on Academic Plan
We’ve just received word that the sixth annual “Campus Dialogue on Engagement” will be held on January 6, 2012, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Friday Center. This year’s conversation will focus on “Implementing the Academic Plan: Recognizing and Rewarding Engaged Scholarship and Activities.” The dialogue is co-sponsored by the Carolina Center for Public Service, the Engagement Subcommittee of the Academic Plan Steering Committee, and the Friday Center. Faculty, staff, students and community partners are invited to attend. Please rsvp to ccps@unc.edu by Tuesday, January 3.

2013 Honorary Degree Nomination Period Now Open
The faculty Honorary Degrees and Special Awards committee invites the university community to submit nominees “who have rendered outstanding service to humanity in the world arena, in our nation, in the American South, or our State of North Carolina; made outstanding contributions to knowledge in the world of scholarship; people whose talent and creativity in the world of the arts has enriched our lives; and people whose devotion to and support of our University merits our highest recognition.” Click here for nomination information. CWLC Faculty Mentoring Awards Call for Nominations
This award recognizes outstanding men and women faculty who go the extra mile to mentor students and/or junior faculty. Each recipient receives $5,000. Electronically submit nominations at: http://www.unc.edu/pcgi-bin/WLCMA_viewapp.pl. They are due February 3, 2012.
